Veteran Voices: Communicating Through the Language of Art opens at monca, Thursday, April 1 and runs through Sunday, May 30, 2021. It is a juried exhibition of 32+ pieces of art from 15 artists, all former veterans. Many of the veterans who participated in past veterans’ exhibitions are back for this show. Recognizable names include David Hoppe, David Smallhouse, and Richard Whitehead.
With monca’s home the Veterans Memorial Hall in Chico, this is a very special exhibition. A display of Veterans memorabilia has a permanent place in the front lobby of monca, but with exhibitions, like this, art and our veterans return to their home. Prior to moving in, the museum had several pop-up veteran exhibitions, its first exhibition in the Veterans Memorial Hall was shortly after opening in April/May 2018.
