The Magnolia Singing Tree Celebration, Sunday July 25, 4-6pm

The Magnolia Singing Tree Celebration is a collaborative Art Display and Celebration.  It includes an Artist Panel Discussion with local artists:  Jeanne Christopherson, Ali Meders-Knight, Lucky Preston, and Jim Grahm.  It is moderated by Bobbie Rae Jones with questions like “What role does arts play in shared societal trauma?”  There is also a live performance “Lampara (Light)” by Nefertiti’s Dozen with Jeanne Christopherson, and an Interactive art opportunity.

The Magnolia Singing Tree of Our Inner Wellspring is the result of the collaboration between Wellspring members and their extended community.  Several multidisciplinary artists were compelled by their need to share creatively, esp. during the exasperated sensation of isolation caused by the pandemic.  The imagery in the painting describes how we can individually and collectively connect with our inner wellspring of creativity even during the most challenging of experiences.

About the Community Artist:
Bobbie Rae Jones, MA participated in an international collaborative art project in 2020 called the Singing Tree Project founded by Laurie Marshall of Unity Through Creativity Foundation. Following her volunteering in immediate relief to the Camp Fire disaster and during her recovery work in rebuilding homes during the COVID pandemic and North Complex Fire, as an artist and activist, she welcomed the opportunity to present the project to The Wellspring Arts Collective, a group of multidisciplinary artists in Chico, Ca.

The mural is the 93rd created in the The Singing Tree Project.  As the forests grow, so shall the Singing Trees, using arts to grieve quickly and collectively, Bobbie will continue to create trees in and around the burn scar of Butte County.  She aspires to offer this positive experience as a means to transform our trauma into beauty, build peace and community through arts. Imagining, visioning, and creating together is what’s needed in response to our times.

Cost: Free.  Refreshments will be available.
