Reflection and Hope: A Year Remembered

  November 7 - December 29, 2019

The Museum of Northern California Art is seeking art for a  juried exhibition to reflect on the first year following the Camp Fire in Paradise expressing experiences of survivors and the entire community after this life-changing event. All media accepted including, but not limited to, painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, photography, bookmaking, writing, video, performance, textiles, and printmaking. The museum’s exhibition committee will make final selections.

Accompanying this exhibition will be artist-made benches from Redding in Bench Press-Please Be Seated Please. It will allow viewers to sit and reflect on the rest of the exhibition and its many messages.

ELIGIBILITY:  Original works, all media, created by artists residing in Northern California, defined as San Jose and all points north, east, and west to the state border.  All exhibited artworks must remain in the exhibition until 5 p.m. on December 29, 2019.  


  • Your entry should be emailed to: with SUBJECT of the email as “Reflection 2019”

  • The email must contain: Artist’s name, address, phone(s), email address, along with image file and info for each piece.  Also include a résumé or c.v. and/or a brief artist statement.

  • See below for entry fee information.  Please indicate payment method in your submission.

Image files and labeling

  • Images should be in .jpg format, naming the file with the artist’s name followed by 1, 2, 3 etc.  Example joesmith1.jpg

  • For each image, include in your email:

  1. Image number (from the filename)

  2. Title 

  3. Medium

  4. Dimensions

  5. Date of work

  6. Any special display or hanging needs

  7. Price or NFS

The price should include a 50% museum commission.   Prices will not appear on the gallery signage, but instead will be available on request at the reception desk.  

          ENTRY FEE: $25 (non-refundable) for 3 images; $10 for each additional entry

  • Checks must reach monca, 900 Esplanade, Chico, CA 95926 by October 18 at 5 pm

  • Make check payable to monca and write ‘Reflections entry fee’ in the memo.  Your canceled check is your receipt

  • For credit card payment, call (530.487.7272) or pay in person, at monca, 900 Esplanade, Chico, CA    Museum hours: Thurs-Sunday 11-5

     Jury notifications will be emailed on October 20. 


  • Accepted work should be delivered to 900 Esplanade during the following times:

October 24-27 or November 1-3, 11-5 pm

  • All work must be delivered ready to hang or display. Works to hang on the wall must be wired; no sawtooth hangers. Any special display or hanging needs must be described in the application. 

  • Artist’s name, phone, and title of work must be on the back of each artwork.

Please note: If you are not a local artist or if for any reason you must ship your work, return postage arrangements will be required up front.  If the work does not sell, it will be re-packaged in its original shipping materials and sent back to you at your cost.
If shipping the work, please insure it.  If glazed, make sure to use plexiglass to prevent breakage since glass could damage the artwork. The museum will not be held responsible for work damaged in shipment. 


Deadline for entries and fees: October 18, 2019 at 5:00pm

Jury results notification: October 20

Artwork delivery:  October 24-27 and November 1-3 regular museum hours, 11-5 pm

Exhibit opens: November 7 at 11:00 am

Opening reception:  Friday, November 8, 6-8 pm

Last day of exhibit: December 29

Artwork pickups: December 29 at 5pm, January 2-5 and 9-12, 11-5 pm

Works left beyond January 31, 2020 will become property of monca.  

monca will be diligent in the care of artwork but is not responsible for loss or damage that might occur; insurance is the responsibility of the artist.
