Vets Workshop at monca
April 14, 2018
Chico, CA – The Vets Workshop is part of a series of special events surrounding the Vets Show that is currently at monca through May 27th. Veterans and artists, Drew Cameron and Ehren Tool, will be holding workshops at monca on Saturday, April 14th on transforming military uniforms into handmade paper that can be turned into pieces of art and creating ceramic mugs with a message to help vets process their military experiences. The message on the uniform is “You are not my enemy”; the message on the cup “In war, there are no unwounded soldiers.”
Drew Cameron, an Iraq War veteran and artist, will work with participants to use previously shredded uniforms to create a pulp that can be turned into paper. It is a process that has helped many veterans make sense of their experiences in a constructive, safe and artistic environment.
Ehren Tool, ceramic artist and Senior Laboratory Mechanician at the Ceramic Department at University of California, Berkeley, and Marine Veteran of the 1991 Gulf War, will hold a workshop on creating ceramic cups with a message about military combat. Talking about war is difficult, the cups offer a starting point that feels more accessible and comfortable to most people.
Date and Time: Saturday, April 14th, 11am – 5pm
Admission: Adults $5. Vets with Cards, Students and Children: Free. Workshop: Free
